Social Media Post #173: Metro East - Support Visit 5
Part of the Project
From counting numbers to understanding number.
During our fifth support visit to the Metro East Education District (MEED), we explored how children's mathematical thinking develops through carefully mediated learning experiences.
Comparing quantities, counting objects, exploring changes in number and representing quantities on paper are more than isolated activities. They create opportunities for children to connect actions with concepts, develop mathematical language and explain their reasoning.
The teacher's role is central: asking purposeful questions, encouraging observation and creating space for children to articulate how they know.
At Basic Concepts Foundation, we believe that meaningful learning develops both knowledge and the thinking needed to use it.
Thank you to the MEED teachers for continuing this work with us.
Building the foundations for learning.
