From Gaborone to Kasane: A Journey of Discovery

Over six days and more than 1,000 kilometres, the Basic Concepts Foundation had the opportunity to engage with Ministry of Education officials, educational psychologists, school leaders and teachers across Botswana.

Our journey began in Gaborone, where we met with senior officials from the Ministry of Education and Child Welfare to discuss the role of language, concepts and thinking skills in learning. We then presented to educators from private schools before travelling north to Kasane for the Independent Schools Association of Botswana Conference, where we shared our paper, Concept Teaching – Concept Learning.

What stood out throughout the visit was a shared commitment to helping children develop the foundations they need for learning success. While it is still too early to know where these conversations may lead, we return encouraged by the interest, engagement and new relationships formed along the way.

A sincere thank you to BMS and Jon Bhima for their sponsorship, hospitality and support throughout the journey.

The conversations have only just begun.
